In reality, the scope of psychology extends much beyond the study of behaviour. Mental health issues, including their causes, diagnosis, and treatment, are also covered. Emotional, psychological, and social well-being all contribute to what is known as “mental health.” The individual’s behaviour, growth, intelligence, and perceptual abilities are all impacted. What we think, feel, and do in response to the challenges of daily life are all influenced by it. Maintaining a healthy mind is crucial at any age, from infancy through young adulthood and beyond.

Especially in the United States’ rural communities, where residents often lack accurate information regarding the severity of mental illness and the consequences of ignoring it, the significance of mental health is often underestimated.

Never before has there been so much talk about the significance of raising awareness of mental health issues. Sadly, many instances go unreported and untreated due to stigma surrounding mental health issues. The widespread prevalence of false beliefs and ingrained cultural norms are two key contributors.

Only when a person’s health is severely compromised will they really consider seeing a therapist. The first and most important factor to consider when discussing such topics is the level of public knowledge about them. It is crucial to educate people about the importance of mental health, particularly in underdeveloped regions of the world. After all, raising people’s consciousness is an essential part of mental health therapy. To help those who don’t know about mental health and those who are suffering, it’s crucial to have a firm grasp on what it is and how raising awareness about it may make a world of difference.

Raising public consciousness of the importance of mental health is a step in the right direction toward achieving this goal, as it will lead to more acceptance and ultimately more opportunities for people to have physically and mentally fulfilling lives. The Islamic faith is the first to recognise the necessity of caring for one’s mental health. The Holy Quran may serve as a map for individuals seeking relief from emotional or psychological anguish, with the ultimate goal of directing readers toward a more fulfilling and satisfying existence. There is no ailment that Allah has created except that he also created its solution, according to a hadith attributed to Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
On October 10, we celebrate World Mental Health Awareness Day to bring attention to the importance of mental health to overall well-being, and to show that people with mental health problems deserve to be treated with respect and compassion rather than being stigmatised as a “dark side” of society. Both mental and physical well-being are crucial to human survival. One’s capacity to take care of one’s body is directly related to the state of one’s mind. Everyone should take part in a variety of activities that raise awareness of mental health issues.

It is our responsibility to monitor others in our immediate vicinity to detect signs of mental stress, disorientation, or disease among the individuals we interact with on a regular basis in the workplace or elsewhere. It is not sinful to have mental health concerns, and the individual should always be made to feel welcome and given as much assistance as possible. When someone is treated with kindness and compassion, it may help them feel accepted and valued, which can be a major step in overcoming their condition. However, there is more to mental wellness than the absence of mental diseases.

The people closest to a person, including family and friends, have an obligation to keep an eye on each other and assist that person when he or she is experiencing emotional or mental distress, even if the troubled person is unaware of the need for assistance.

The significance of one’s immediate surroundings cannot be overstated. One’s mental health is profoundly impacted by the environments in which they live, learn, and work. It’s very uncommon for individuals to dismiss the out-of-the-ordinary actions of their friends, relatives, and coworkers, despite the fact that they are often the first warning signals of mental illness. No one should ever disregard signs of social withdrawal, such as unusual behaviour, being alone, being unpleasant, or a lack of ultimate communication.

When people’s mental health issues reach crisis proportions, they often reach a point when they feel hopeless, angry, and despairing to the point that suicide seems like the only way out. If those people don’t get help quickly, a terrible thing will happen, and someone’s valuable life will be lost.

Worldwide, the suicide rate has been steadily rising, with the most dramatic increases seen in Poland, the Ukraine, the United States, North Korea, Russia, Africa, and other regions. Because so many individuals in Seoul choose to end their lives by jumping over the Mapo Bridge, it is often referred to as “Suicide Bridge.” When the covid-19 epidemic broke out, countries throughout the world went into lockdown for months. This led to widespread sadness and anxiety, and many people tried to take their own lives as a result.

There needs to be more open dialogue on the significance of maintaining good mental health. It’s a great plan to help more people get the treatment they need for mental health issues and spread awareness about them. The ability to form meaningful relationships, to treat everyone with kindness, to engage in regular physical activity, and to organise and participate in activities and seminars devoted to the topic of mental health. Effective treatment relies heavily on early identification, prevention, and the use of tailored therapies.
