The Motivation and Self-Regulation Scale is extracted from School Attitudes Assessment Survey (SAAS) developed by McCoach (2002) to assess students’ ability to initiate, pursue, and maintain the pursuit of academic goals. This tool is aimed at children between the ages of 12 and 18 (grades 6–12) and examines students’ levels of motivation and self regulatory behavior, the basis of academic success. This scale measures the intrinsic interest of students in education and the strategies they employ to initiate, regulate, and maintain needed effort to accomplish educational goals.

As an educator, a counselor, or a researcher, this scale can be useful to learn what students are being motivated by, find areas where students are possibly at risk in their academics, and to promote students’ self regulation.
